Lifetime Calculation of Conductive Polymer Aluminum E-Cap.(Hybrid Type)

L: Lifetime expectancy at the time of actual use

Lb: Basic life at maximum operating temperature

Tmax: Maximum operating temperature

DT0: Internal temperature rise when maximum rated ripple current is applied

DT0 = 6

Tc: Actual ambient temperature (around capacitor)

 Highlights:

  •  The 10°C 2x rule applies: when the actual operating temperature is lower than the rated temperature upper limit, for each 10°C drop, it can be multiplied by 2 times to calculate the actual total working lifetime.

  •  Specified lifetime when maximum ripple current applies: It means that when the electrolytic capacitor is used in the highest rated temperature environment as well as the maximum rated ripple current is also applied, the working lifetime is guaranteed as stated in specification.

  •  Surface temperature (Tc) of the aluminum shell has included the heating effect from ripple current: When measuring the surface temperature of the capacitor when it is loaded, dual conditions has been covered in measuring the temperature (Tc): the temperature rise generated from the ripple current passing through the capacitor as well as the ambient temperature from the working environment.
