Current Sensing - High Current Shunt with Kelvin Connections

A low resistance value is important for efficient current sensing, as a lower resistance value means that the current sensing measurement itself consumes less power. However, due to the error generated by the resistor terminals, it becomes challenging to accurately detect low resistance values. The use of a four-terminal shunt resistor eliminates the adverse effects of the resistor terminals on the operation of the current sense measurement. HCSK1216 offers 3W to 5W four-terminal shunts for precision current sensing performance in a footprint that is 75% smaller than the 2725 size.

HCSK1216 offers 0.5 mOhm and 1 mOhm resistance values with tolerances as low as 1% and 50 ppm TCR. Applications include power management, power modules, battery charging, frequency converters, hybrid power current sensing, engine and motor control, and PC graphics and motherboards. Pricing for HCSK varies based on size and tolerance, HCSK1216 with a tolerance of 1%.
